At Noosa Civic we recognise that sustainability is a journey that requires innovation, commitment and ongoing investment. We are constantly working toward minimising our environmental impact and have a number of initiatives in place as follows:

Bio retention basins

Twelve permanent environmental areas are set aside in our car park. These gardens, or bio retention basins, filter car park pollutants before they enter the nearby natural habitat.

Recycling bins

Rubbish bins in the mall at Noosa Civic include a recycling option for glass, plastic and aluminium containers. Co-mingled recycling bins are located in the loading docks for use by our retailers. 41 tonnes is collected from the Centre annually. This significantly reduces general waste being dumped at landfill, recycling it instead.

Cardboard recycling bins are located in strategic locations around the Centre and are available to all tenancies. 343 tonnes of cardboard is recycled from the Centre annually.

Rainwater reuse program

A 422,000 litre underground water storage tank has been installed and connected to provide water to the public conveniences and mall air conditioning within the Centre, reducing previous consumption of the town water supply.

Building management system

Our updated building management system provides real time monitoring and control of energy consumed by air conditioning and lighting.  We also have an ongoing program of replacing metal halide light fittings with energy efficient LED fittings.

Cooking oil recycling

3,900 litres of oil is collected annually. The majority of oil collected in Australia is sent to Europe for use in bio fuel processing. Some is sold locally for use with stockfeed.

Community Library

Giving used books a new lease of life, our Community Library is a place where you can take a book, leave a book and share a book. Located near Woolworths.

Toys for Joy

Donate your pre-loved toys at BIG W to be recycled by Terracycle and bring a joyful future to the kids of Australia.

Glasses Recycling Program

Specsavers has launched a nationwide glasses recycling program in partnership with Lions Recycle For Sight that delivers quality glasses and sunglasses to people in need overseas. To make a difference, simply bring your pre-loved glasses to Specsavers store and place them in the glasses recycling box or hand them to a team member.

Recycle your footwear

Recycle your footwear at the The Athletes Foot.  Simply drop them into the bin instore.  Excludes heels, flats, boots, dress shoes or steel cap boots.
