Our Top 5 Beautiful Hikes on the Sunshine Coast.

November 2, 2022

Enjoying a hike in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland is an opportunity to see our backyard in a way you have never experienced before. We take adventuring seriously here at Noosa Civic and have come together to uncover some of the best hikes, bush walks and waterfalls that will make you want to grab your camera, pack your map, snacks and water bottle, strap on your backpack and hit the road. Read on to find out our top 5 beautiful hikes on the Sunshine Coast.

  1. Noosa National Park

Starting close to home, we love walking the Coastal Track in the Noosa National Park. With plenty of parking at the entrance and side streets, this walk meanders along the coast to Boiling Pot, Tea Tree Bay, Granite Bay and over to Alexandria Bay. The round trip takes about an hour with views for days. Remember to take your water bottle! There is also a toilet block at the carpark and at Tea Tree Bay.

  1. Kondalilla Falls

Located within the Kondalilla National Park, just a short 5 minute drive from the main street in Montville, you’ll find a breathtaking waterfall that drops 90m down, before meandering through the Obi Obi Valley. There are a couple of tracks depending on your fitness level and time available – Picnic Creek Circuit (1.7 kms) and Kondalilla Falls Circuit (4.7 kms). We love the Picnic Creek Circuit as it meanders past a majestic swimming hole is surrounded by trees, native flora and rocks, which is the perfect place to stop for a picturesque picnic. The Kondalilla Falls Circuit may have 100 steps included but the views are worth it.

  1. Mount Coolum

Steep but worth it! This track is not for the faint of heart but the challenge lies in the reward at the top of the mountain with panoramic views of the Sunshine Coast coastline and hinterland, offering views for hundreds of kilometres on a sunny day. There is a small car park at the base of the mountain and packing a backpack with water is a must.

  1. Mount Ngungun

If you’ve ever seen a picture of a hinterland summit, it’s probably been taken at the top of Mt Ngungun. It’s a popular hike due to its relative ease in climbing and those spectacular views. It typically takes about 40 minutes to summit to the top, but it may take you longer as there is plenty to see and explore along the way, including a cool rock overhang.

  1. Mount Cooroora

Not a fan of long hikes? No worries! Keep it short and sweet with Mt Cooroora’s 2km return trip. But don’t be fooled. What it lacks in distance, it makes up for in steepness. It’s a strenuous hike and you’ll feel the burn, but making it to the summit will never be more satisfying. Just remember to take a photo so you can prove you made it!
